Fashion as a form of self- expression

Fashion is a form of self-expression, and like art, it is expressive. Clothing is the only way to express the inner self, but researches suggested that the cloth we wear may affect our behaviours as well as our confidence.

We shouldn’t try to make fashion own us but we should decide what we are, what we want to express by the way we dress and the way we live. Since, many years people are using fashion in the form of self-expression.

Wearing the clothes we feel love, confidence in own-self and which is very important to well-being of the elderly. Anyways fashion is a great way to get the elderly to bring an image of the past to our mind which has a positive impact on the wellbeing. The impact of fashion that has on the elderly doesn’t stop here.

Our clothes become a part of our identity. As a form of self-expression, fashion can make us feel more in touch with our inner self. Caring about clothes can sometimes be seen as frivolous and superficial. And yet, when it comes to other forms of self-expression, such as painting, writing or dancing, it’s readily accepted that the more you care, the more likely you are to fall into a path of personal exploration. So what is it about dressing the body—another form of self-expression—that makes it different? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the fashion is often pigeonholed as fashion magazines and consumerism—which it can be—but it can also be a lot more nuanced. For some, fashion can be an extension of the self, or a way to (re)invent yourself. A style of dress can be a visual manifestation of where one stands, colored by history, culture, emotions and politics. Or it can be an attempt to create a state where the gap between one’s body and one’s inner life feels the smallest. On other end of the spectrum, it can simply be seen as a social norm – in Western society, one is forced to cover the body to a certain extent. Despite how you approach the ritual of getting dressed, it’s an inescapable part of our lives.

Fashion as a form of self- expression

If you feel comfortable in the look you’ve created for yourself, you can free your mind and focus on other things – art, work, the world.  There’s often one thing – a coat, sweater, pair of jeans or ring – that can make you feel at ease. Sometimes it’s the stories and memories associated with it, other times it’s the inexplicable way that it shapes us when we have it on. Certain pieces can endure the test of time and remain a staple in your wardrobe regardless of passing trends.

Style allows us to change things up as we go, reflecting our continuous growth as we move through life. Your style in your teens evolves through your twenties and morphs into a reflection of the person you are today. Maybe back then, black platform combat boots were your jam, but today you’re more into pastels that show off your softer side.

Fashion can find expression and be coded by palpably and perceivably in forms of color, shape, texture and branding, and must be created and spread inside cultural fields combining local and global systems. It is not just a social practice concerning clothing and address, an expressive sensibility favoring novelty and individuality.

Our closet always seem full of possibilities its just depends on what aspect our identity we want to make palpable in clothes each day.
